Snooping on the competition? My guess is that it left you feeling more doubtful in who you are, questioning if you’re on the right path with your business, wondering if your pricing strategy is as good as theirs. They say the thief of joy is comparison and you know what that feels like.
HECK, I KNOW WHAT THAT FEELS LIKE!
And I promise you that any creative out there knows what it feels like to look over to someone else that’s doing better than them and feel like they’re not good enough.
Here’s the thing though, you won’t be distracted by comparison if you are captivated with purpose. When you structure your mindset to focus on yourself, your work, your business, you won’t have a min to spare to compare yourself to those around you.
I remember trying to get on the right path with my business, and there’s one thing I kept reading in all the business tips online; Conduct a competitor analysis. Research your competition.
I never really understood WHY this was so important and still don’t understand why businesses focus on this. I do not see anyone as my competition. We don’t have the same dreams, goals, ambition, thoughts, vision. We’re not the same, so what the point of comparing myself to anyone else?!
If you’re a business owner or a dream chaser learns to admire someone else’s beauty, without questioning your own. Learn to follow other business, regardless of where they are on the map because you are their business for the right reason. STOP comparing yourself to anyone else by yourself because I promise the valuable insight you’re hoping to find usually ends up creating more doubts about the path you’re on.
YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE.
You can spend your day looking for the insight you’ll never find, compare yourself to those around you OR you can decide to start focusing on only your business.
There’s a reason successful people get a lot done. They have the same 24 hours in the day as anyone else in the world, and they choose to spend their time, head down, focused on getting their work done. When they lay out their priorities every day, the comparison doesn’t even make the cut. They know they have a limited time to get work done and don’t bother with things like researching the competition.
Ask yourself; Is THIS action helping me move forward with my business? If the answer is no, then stop doing it. If the answer is yes; then get more of it!
